Tottenham Hotspur star Jan Paul van Hecke has revealed his take that the physical approach made use of by La Liga outfit Getafe in the recent meeting between the sides was not at all necessary.

Spurs and Getafe, for those not aware, locked horns in a friendly clash on Saturday, amid ongoing preparations for the fast-approaching campaign ahead.

When all was said and done, the spoils were shared, after Alberto Risco’s opener was cancelled out by Conor Gallagher.

As alluded to above, though, in the game’s aftermath, it was not the outcome which proved the central talking point amongst those of a Tottenham persuasion.

Instead, widespread chatter surrounded the approach of Getafe, who, at times, tested the limits of the word ‘friendly’.

And one member of Roberto De Zerbi’s Spurs ranks who was left altogether unimpressed by as much was the aforementioned Jan Paul van Hecke. Speaking to the media post-match, Van Hecke revealed his take that:

“Sometimes a bit of intensity is fine, but today it was too much on their part. It’s not necessary, especially in a friendly. In a normal match, they would’ve gotten 2 or 3 reds. But maybe that’s their way of playing.”
