Chelsea face Wrexham in a pretty interesting FA Cup fifth round tie tomorrow evening, and today Liam Rosenior took his press conference. The manager had some updates on a few players’ fitness, including winger Estevao.
The Brazilian hasn’t played since the the last round of the cup, where he started and scored against Hull. Before that, he was racking up pretty regular appearances off the bench or starting games. He’s been close to a comeback for a while, but the news isn’t good.
“Estevao is back on the pitch but he’s not ready for this one,” the Chelsea boss said.
“We need to be really, really careful given it was a hamstring injury. So he just needs to clear a few more markers before we put him back in. But obviously it’ll be a big boost to have him back in the group.
It’s a real pity for Estevao, given how perfect a chance this is for him to start. This injury really came at an unfortunate time for him given Jamie Gittens has been out and then Pedro Neto got himself suspended.
The good news for the Blues is that Alejandro Garnacho played really well on Wednesday and is hopefully ready to continue his good form with another start at the Racehorse Ground.
Garnacho was busy praising his teammate Joao Pedro for his form in that same game this week.
Chelsea fan are getting tempted into thinking that Vincent Kompany’s talk with Nicolas Jackson could mean the striker ends up staying with Bayern Munich.
