Nottingham Forest 0-1 Coventry: Dasilva breaks Sky Blue duck at The City Ground | OneFootball

Oliver Glasner’s Nottingham Forest side reduced to defeat at The City Ground by Coventry City, who claim maiden victory in their return Premier League campaign thanks to an emphatic finish from Jay Dasilva.

Despite looking to build momentum after a 2-1 away victory last time out at Villa Park, Forest were the subject of a narrow home defeat inflicted by Frank Lampard’s side, which now sees Glasner’s side sit in 12th place.

The Sky Blues finally broke their duck on a day to remember for the travelling fans as Jay Dasilva scored the only goal of the day in a tremendous away victory for Coventry City, which sees them leapfrog Spurs and Fulham into 18th.

As it happened

The hosts started the contest on the front foot, testing Carl Rushworth in the Coventry goal inside the opening minute when James McAtee fired a powerful half-volley towards goal, only to be gathered by the visiting keeper.

After 15 minutes had been played, Frank Lampard’s side showed what they are capable of on the ball, with some neat passing play progressing into the Forest 18-yard box, giving Brandon Thomas-Asante the invitation to strike towards goal, but it was a tame effort, easily saved by Matz Sels.

Just two minutes later, Forest’s attack combined well to construct an opening for Dan Ndoye, who cut inside his marker to get a shot away, but his effort dipped just over the bar.

It was Liam Delap who had the next chance at The City Ground in the 35th minute, but the centre-forward failed to hit the target from just inside the box with a right-footed strike that went just wide of the near post.

As the contest reached the half-time interval, it was the hosts who definitely had the better of the limited chances in the tie, but neither side had really tested the opposition keepers.

The hosts had a promising start to the second half with two corners in quick succession early on, but still couldn’t carve open a clear-cut chance to really test the visiting goalkeeper.

As the clock ticked past 55 minutes, it was the visiting side who broke the deadlock at The City Ground when Welsh full-back Jay Dasilva excellently brought down a long ball from his goalkeeper before showing great composure to find the back of the net, sending the away fans into raptures for their first goal of the campaign.

With less than 20 minutes remaining in the encounter, Forest were still struggling to dissect the Coventry defence, with frustration starting to creep in from the home fans as Liam Delap cut in from the left flank and fired an effort aiming for the far corner out of desperation, only to end up well over the crossbar and into the stands.

Somehow, the hosts didn’t equalise in the 75th minute as Morgan Gibbs-White threaded a pass into Igor Jesus, who beat the keeper with a neat chip, only to be denied on the line by some heroic last-ditch defending from Bobby Thomas.

Nottingham Forest thought they had finally managed to beat Rushworth in the Coventry net with three minutes left to play of normal time as Igor Jesus pounced upon a slip by Caleb Yirenkyi and slotted home into the bottom-right corner from six yards out, before a VAR review ruled out the leveller to the frustration of the home supporters and players, due to a foul by the goalscorer.

Forest had their final chances to equalise in the sixth minute of added time when Murillo fired from distance to win a corner, but the set piece amounted to nothing before the final whistle blew, securing a famous victory in Nottingham for the Sky Blues.
