Leeds United open their second Premier League season back with Saturday’s trip to Nottingham Forest, with both camps juggling fitness issues. Across the two squads there are a combined seven players out or doubtful, while two have now returned.

According to yorkshireeveningpost.co.uk, Daniel Farke’s side closed pre-season with a 4-0 win over FC Augsburg. Their summer featured a narrow loss to Wrexham, wins over Sunderland and Liverpool in the USA, a home victory against RB Leipzig, then a 1-1 draw with Manchester United in Dublin.

Left back Gabi Gudmundsson sustained a muscular problem against Liverpool in America. Farke later said he was probably facing around four weeks out and could be doubtful for both of United’s first two league games. Winger Noah Okafor returned late after Switzerland’s World Cup quarter-final run, got first minutes against Manchester United then more off the bench versus Augsburg, so it would seem unlikely he will start.

For Forest, Chris Wood was given time off after New Zealand’s World Cup campaign, then missed Bayer Leverkusen with a minor muscle issue before starting against Brest. Omari Hutchinson missed much of pre-season with injury, returned to the bench for Brest and came on in the second half.

Ousmane Diomande, a £34.3m signing from Sporting CP, debuted against Leverkusen but did not feature versus Brest and is still getting up to full fitness. Defender Nicolo Savona has been managing a knee injury and looks set to join Atalanta.
