Nottingham Forest have appointed Vitor Pereira as their fourth head coach of the season, replacing Sean Dyche as they fight to stay in the Premier League.

Dyche was dismissed on Wednesday, three hours after a 0-0 draw with bottom club Wolverhampton Wanderers, a little over 100 days after taking charge in October. The club said in a statement he had been relieved of his duties, thanked him and his staff, and would make no further comment.

The former Everton and Burnley boss initially steadied a start that had seen Nuno Espirito Santo and Ange Postecoglou axed, but results dipped. Forest fired 35 shots against Wolves without scoring and have won only two of their last 10 league games.

Pereira arrives with 12 matches remaining and Forest above the relegation line. They hold a three-point lead over 18th-placed West Ham, and Nuno’s Hammers have been in good form.

The 57-year-old kept Wolves up last season but has been out of work since his sacking last November. He knows owner Evangelos Marinakis from leading Olympiacos to a league and cup double in 2015.

His coaching career also includes Al Shabab, Flamengo, Corinthians, 1860 Munich, Al Ahli and Porto. He twice managed Fenerbahce, and the Turkish side will be his first opponents as Forest boss.

Forest visit Istanbul next Thursday for the first leg of their Europa League play-off, then host Fenerbahce a week later. Pereira’s first Premier League match is at home to Liverpool on Sunday week, February 22.
