Nottingham Forest assess midfield as Elliot Anderson exit nears and replacements considered | OneFootball

Nottingham Forest will prioritise midfield reinforcements once Elliot Anderson’s switch to Manchester City is completed, with a reported £116m up-front fee shaping summer plans.

The 23-year-old has excelled at the City Ground, leaving Vitor Pereira a gap to address. According to Nottingham Post, the cash injection will support wider squad work.

Assuming the deal is finalised, the established midfield will be captain Ryan Yates, Nicolas Dominguez and Ibrahim Sangare, all contracted until 2028. Morgan Gibbs-White and James McAtee are better used higher up.

Fresh terms have been discussed for Dominguez and Sangare. Sangare drew tentative interest from Manchester United and Besiktas after a standout 2025/26, having initially struggled following a £30m move from PSV in 2023.

Sangare is with Ivory Coast at the World Cup and has helped them reach the knockouts. Dominguez and Yates return from a break after aiding survival and a Europa League semi-final run.

Forest tried in January for Celtic’s Arne Engels and Inter’s Davide Frattesi without success, and both remain targets. Engels, rated at £21.5m, has admirers in Crystal Palace, Tottenham and Fulham.

Frattesi is valued at £26m, Juventus want him and he is said to prefer staying in Italy. Younger options include Tottenham’s Lucas Bergvall and Trabzonspor’s Christ Inao Oulai, both 20.

Bergvall is seeking more minutes and is priced at £45-50m. Replacing the former Newcastle United midfielder will be difficult, so fit alongside Sangare is key.
