According to NY Times, Nottingham Forest are in advanced talks with Celta Vigo over wing-back Javi Rueda, though personal terms with the 24-year-old and a package with the Spanish club still need agreement.
Real Madrid would receive 50 per cent of any fee from the 2023 deal that took Rueda to Celta. Rueda is now Forest’s main target after they missed out on Anan Khalaili, who joined Crystal Palace from Royale Union Saint-Gilloise after a £20 million bid was rejected.
Rueda has spent his career in Spain and established himself in Celta’s first team last season. He made 27 La Liga appearances, scoring twice, and struck in both legs of the Europa League last-16 win over Lyon.
Forest loaned Eric da Silva Moreira, 20, to Excelsior for the season, creating room for another wing-back. Head coach Oliver Glasner prefers a back three with wing-backs, a shape Celta used last term.
Ola Aina started at right wing-back in the first two matches, both home defeats to Leeds United, with Forest yet to score. On the left, Neco Williams is adjusting, with Luca Netz available and Nicolo Savona recovering from a knee injury.
Liam Delap is close to completing an initial £45 million move from Chelsea, which would add a striker with physical presence. If Forest add both Delap and Rueda, it would mark two major pieces of their summer business.
