Igor Jesus struck late to give Nottingham Forest a 2-1 victory at Aston Villa, securing their first win of the season after Liam Delap’s rocket and a 74th-minute equaliser from Alysson.

Forest were without Nikola Milenkovic and Jair Cunha due to slight hamstring tightness, handing first Premier League starts to Ousmane Diomande and Daniel Munoz, with Ola Aina at right centre-back. Nottingham Post’s player ratings are below.

Villa pressed early, Victor Lindelof twice went close amid a scramble, with Matz Sels, Murillo and the post keeping them out. Forest then threatened from free-kicks through James McAtee and Diomande, while Morgan Gibbs-White had a drive saved. Sels denied Ross Barkley before Neco Williams missed in first-half stoppage time.

At 45 seconds of the second half Delap rifled in from outside the box. Forest pushed on, Dan Ndoye had three openings and Delap headed into the side-netting. His finish on 65 minutes was ruled offside before Alysson levelled with a header on 74.

Daniel Munoz and Xaver Schlager both went close, then substitute Igor Jesus converted from Gibbs-White’s pass to settle it at Villa Park.

Ratings: Sels seven and a half, Aina six, Diomande six, Murillo six, Munoz seven, Schlager eight, McAtee eight and a half, Williams six, Gibbs-White seven and a half, Ndoye six and a half, Delap eight. Subs: Igor Jesus seven, Ibrahim Sangare six, Chris Wood six. Unused: John, Hudson-Odoi, Dominguez, Kalimuendo, Yates, Netz.
