Nottingham Forest are closing in on the appointment of Vitor Pereira as their new head coach following the dismissal of Sean Dyche, according to reports from BBC Sport.

Dyche was relieved of his duties shortly after Wednesday’s goalless draw with bottom club Wolves, a result that left Forest hovering just three points above the Premier League relegation zone with 12 games remaining. The club moved swiftly to identify a successor, and talks with Pereira have progressed to an advanced stage, with an agreement understood to be close.

The 57-year-old Portuguese coach has quickly emerged as Forest’s preferred candidate, aided by his previous working relationship with owner Evangelos Marinakis at Olympiacos. Pereira guided the Greek side to domestic success during his time in charge and retains the confidence of the Forest hierarchy.

He most recently managed Wolves, steering them to Premier League survival after arriving midway through last season. However, a difficult start to the current campaign, which yielded just two points from 10 matches, led to his departure in November.

Should the deal be finalised, Pereira will become Forest’s fourth manager of a turbulent season, following Nuno Espirito Santo, Ange Postecoglou, and Dyche, as the club seek stability in their fight for top-flight survival.
