L’Équipe are reporting that Nottingham Forest are close to a deal to sign Bordeaux’s Hwang Ui-jo (29). However, the Premier League side would immediately loan him out to Olympiacos.
Hwang was reportedly unenthused by the idea of a move to the Greek club, but after consulting with his compatriot, Hwang In-beon, who currently plays for Olympiacos, he has warmed to the idea.
The South Korean striker now looks set to make the move. According to L’Équipe, the deal is “almost done.” Nottingham Forest will pay €4m (plus €1m in bonuses) before sending him out on loan to Greece.
Hwang scored 11 goals in 32 Ligue 1 appearances last season. His contribution didn’t prevent Bordeaux from dropping down to Ligue 2. As a result of that relegation, he has been looking for a new challenge, and with only a year remaining on his contract, he is available on a cut-price deal.
