Taiwo Awoniyi’s move to Coventry City has sharpened Nottingham Forest’s search for a striker, and the desired profile is clear.
His switch was confirmed on Monday after an emotional City Ground farewell during Sunday’s 2-0 win over Brest. According to Nottingham Post, a forward was already on the summer shopping list.
Chris Wood scored a penalty at the weekend and remains a key figure whose experience matters in the dressing room. Igor Jesus has impressed in pre-season after his first year in English football.
Wood will be 35 in December and his knee injury still needs managing, while Jesus may be best used as a No 10. To target a top half finish in 2026/27 and a European push, Forest need a striker capable of double figures.
Starting with Wood and Jesus up front is unlikely to worry Oliver Glasner, but he will hope to add before the 1 September deadline.
Height and physicality top the checklist, alongside pace and mobility. Analysis of successful Premier League forwards underpins the search, and Glasner is understood to favour runners in behind.
Chelsea’s Liam Delap remains of interest, with a £35-40m price tag, and he has also been linked with Everton and Leeds United.
Forest open at home to Leeds United on Saturday at 3pm, leaving a little over a week to conclude business. It points to a busy spell by the Trent.
