Nottingham Forest transfer window review: Delap, Munoz and Diomande add quality | OneFootball

Compared with last summer’s 13-player £200 million spree to handle Europa League demands, Nottingham Forest’s window was calmer. Under Oliver Glasner the squad has been slimmed and upgraded, leaving him well equipped for a new phase.

According to NY Times, Forest executed most of their pre-summer plan without major churn, with Elliot Anderson the only significant exit. They kept the core together, notably Morgan Gibbs-White, Murillo, Ibrahim Sangare and Neco Williams.

They spent about £119 million and recouped more than £130 million. Xaver Schlager signed on a free, Ousmane Diomande for £35 million, Liam Delap for an initial £45 million and Munoz, while £17 million recruit Gustavo Sa went straight to Olympiacos on loan. Anderson’s £116 million sale was the headline departure, supplemented by smaller deals and Morato’s loan with an option.

A £40 million move for 19-year-old Harrison Armstrong was agreed before Everton backed out after a supporter backlash. A late approach for Dean Henderson was also rejected by Crystal Palace.

Forest now have four natural centre-backs and cover from Nicolo Savona, Ola Aina and Ryan Yates, so it is not viewed as a concern. Glasner plans flexibility beyond 3-4-2-1 and, with Omari Hutchinson and Dilane Bakwa gone, wide options are down to Dan Ndoye and Callum Hudson-Odoi. James McAtee has impressed deeper, including in the 2-2 draw at Liverpool, while Delap brings pace and presence and the Anderson windfall leaves scope for January.
