Nottingham Forest working on deal to sign Newcastle forward Jacob Murphy | OneFootball

Nottingham Forest are working on a deal to sign Newcastle United winger Jacob Murphy, per transfer reporter Alex Crook. 

Forest are in the market for attacking reinforcements after losing Dilane Bakwa to Lille on loan earlier this summer. 

Murphy is renowned for his pace, work rate and tactical intelligence. He mainly operates as a right winger but can also play on the left wing. 

The 31-year-old has been an influential figure for Newcastle since joining in 2017. 

He has made 267 appearances across all competitions, bagging 25 goals and 39 assists. 

He featured off the bench in the Magpies’ two opening league matches against Liverpool and Tottenham Hotspur. 

Murphy made 23 goal contributions in 2024-25, but struggled to replicate that form last season. 

The 31-year-old has only a year left on his contract, and Newcastle may cash in on him this summer. 

Forest have been active in the transfer market, signing Ousmane Diomande, Gustavo Sa, Saver Schlager, Steven Benda and Liam Delap. 

Daniel Munoz is poised to join after Forest agreed a deal with Palace over a permanent transfer. 

Forest made a bid of £40 million for midfielder Harrison Armstrong. However, Everton decided not to sell the 19-year-old after a backlash from the club’s supporters.
