Nuno Espirito Santo has issued a cautious fitness bulletin before Sunday’s FA Cup quarter-final against Leeds United at the London Stadium, with Crysencio Summerville still under assessment.
As reported by yorkshireeveningpost.co.uk, the 24-year-old has been sidelined by a calf problem sustained in last month’s fifth-round tie with Brentford, missing his club’s past two matches and the Netherlands’ March fixtures. At his Friday press conference, Nuno said medical staff are monitoring him daily and any call for Sunday will follow further checks. It had been suggested he could return after the break.
Asked if playing him could be a risk, he said they were not yet at that stage and decisions would be taken only if the player feels good. He added that the squad is being evaluated after the international break, with some returning with issues and others buoyed by positive results.
Even with Summerville out, 10 players were on international duty, including Konstantinos Mavropanos, who suffered a head injury in last Friday’s 1-0 defeat to Paraguay and was taken off with seven minutes left. He then missed Tuesday’s match against Hungary in Budapest.
Centre-back Jean-Clair Todibo is also a doubt after a calf injury in the warm-up before the pre-break trip to Aston Villa, and he played no part in that match.
Goalkeeper Lukasz Fabianski has not featured since an under-21 outing in September because of a back problem.
