Nuno Espirito Santo says West Ham are really worried after a 3-0 defeat at Wolves deepened their relegation concerns and allowed Leeds United to pull further clear. According to yorkshireeveningpost.co.uk, the Hammers manager was candid about the scale of the task ahead.

Saturday’s loss was West Ham’s heaviest of the season, gifting bottom club Wolves a first Premier League win since April. The weekend also saw Leeds take a point at home to Manchester United, while Nottingham Forest and Burnley were beaten.

Leeds are now two places and eight points ahead of West Ham with 18 games remaining. Forest visit the London Stadium tonight for a relegation six-pointer, and Espirito Santo said his side are concerned but must respond, with the team expected to show at 8pm and compete.

The threat of the drop has already prompted January spending, with £45m outlaid on forwards Pablo Felipe and Taty Castellanos from Gil Vicente and Lazio. West Ham have also been linked with Al Nassr goalkeeper Bento.

Espirito Santo described this window as a re-balance, noting the two arrivals are good options who can help, but that more is needed. Reinforcements are sought in central midfield and defence, with former Leeds defender Charlie Cresswell among the reported targets at FC Toulouse.

Leeds are prepared for rivals to strengthen. Forest, in 17th, are also seeking reinforcements, while Leeds are expected to explore the loan market this month for attacking quality and have been linked with Union Berlin defender Danilho Doekhi, with a back three and Joe Rodon’s ankle injury potentially encouraging extra depth.
