Nuno Espirito Santo says West Ham need more attacking options after the Championship club drew 2-2 with Burnley, amid interest in Leeds United striker Joel Piroe.
According to yorkshireeveningpost.co.uk, West Ham have lodged a transfer enquiry for Piroe and Leeds would prefer a permanent sale at around £16 million.
After Sunday’s draw, Espirito Santo said the window is open and the club must be ready for everything, noting a calf issue for Pablo at half-time. He added that more choices are required up front and he hopes to have extra options next week.
West Ham have also been linked with former Leicester striker Jamie Vardy and with Troy Parrott, currently at AZ Alkmaar. Whether they match Leeds’ valuation or find a compromise remains unclear.
Piroe did not start a Premier League game for Leeds after August and did not score last season. He came off the bench in Saturday’s 4-0 pre-season win over Augsburg after missing recent outings.
Daniel Farke later explained, after a 120-minute meeting with RB Leipzig, that Dominic Calvert-Lewin needed minutes and Lukas Nmecha was ahead of Piroe in the striker role. He stressed there are no issues with Piroe and that pre-season requires longer stints rather than split cameos.
