West Ham United claimed a 2-0 win over Burnley to continue their splendid run of form yesterday.

Manager Nuno Espirito Santo made several big calls, and they seemed to pay off.

He threw new signing Axel Disasi straight into the line-up and he did a terrific job in the heart of defence.

Goalkeeper Mads Hermansen also earned a first start since November 11 and kept West Ham’s first league clean sheet since August.

Hermansen made five saves. Two of those saves came from inside the box. He also recorded two high claims.

The Hammers have recorded only two clean sheets this season, and the £20 million summer signing has been in goal on both occasions.

Burnley did not present the sternest test, but Hermansen has done enough to start over Alphonse Areola.

The Frenchman has made some great saves this term to keep West Ham alive in games, but he is quite error-prone.

Hermansen is the future and should get time to prove his mettle. He has been shaky on set-pieces and had his fair share of horror moments, but he needs a consistent run of games.

He could offer the defensive assurance the Hammers have lacked for much of the campaign.

Clean sheets are often the foundation of survival battles, and Hermansen has already shown he can provide that platform.

With confidence building behind him and a defence beginning to settle, a consistent run in goal could stabilise West Ham’s performances.

If he continues to deliver reliability and big moments, Hermansen may yet become the catalyst that drives their relegation escape.
