The busy September will continue for New York City FC when the team welcomes Inter Miami CF for a midweek battle. Both teams had a few extra games to play compared to most of the Eastern Conference. As such, one should expect this to feel like a playoff match since both teams desperately want the three points. The Boys in Blue are trying to earn as many points as they can while the Florida team is still competing for the Supporters’ Shield.
As many Major League Soccer fans know, Miami is full of stars, headlined by Lionel Messi. They are deemed one of the top teams in the league, but have shown they are not the ultimate team like Messi and some of his teammates were when they were at FC Barcelona. They are beatable, as demonstrated by teams like Charlotte FC, whom the Bronx side won against over the weekend, and the Seattle Sounders. Plus, NYCFC has not lost to the Herons since the side became competitive in the league.
At the same time, NYCFC has not won since Messi joined Miami. All of the regular season matches have ended in draws, with the last win for the Pigeons coming in the spring of 2023. Historically, they have a major edge, for they have a 7-1-4 record. The lone loss occurred in 2022.
Moreover, the Boys in Blue were so close to winning during the season opener in Florida. Unfortunately, a late goal derailed those plans. But NYCFC is capable of winning, especially at home. But it would not be shocking for the match to end in another draw, for that is the trend between the teams.

A draw or a loss on Wednesday will bring NYCFC into third place. As always, the goal is to earn three points, especially at home. But the Pigeons will not want to lose since third through eighth place in the Eastern Conference is separated by three points. Hence, the pressure to increase the separation will clearly be on display.
