This year, it finally feels like New York City FC has kicked away the road woes that had followed them over the last few seasons. The team has a current away record of 6-5-5, which was unimaginable earlier in the 2025 campaign. The team won on the road in April against Toronto FC, but continued to struggle. At least, that was the case until July, when they beat Orlando City SC away from home. After, they picked up four more wins to reach the six total.
Now, with one more road match to play, NYCFC will seek that seventh win away from home when they face the Philadelphia Union. The Supporters’ Shield leaders will be a difficult opponent, but the Pigeons already won against them earlier in the season. As such, it is possible they can earn three points at Subaru Park.
However, more often than not, the idea of picking up points on the road is still hard to believe. Yet, they did so against the Union last season in a gloomy game that was made famous by a raccoon. Plus, the Boys in Blue have won six times total there. This includes years when Philadelphia was one of the best in the league and when they were not.
So, with a seventh 2025 road win on the line, here is a preview of the match between NYCFC and the Philadelphia Union.
The fixture will start at 7:30 PM ET.
The game will take place at Subaru Park in Chester, Pennsylvania.
Supporters can watch the match on the MLS Season Pass via Apple TV.
It will be a nice night when the opening whistle blows. It will be clear and about 73 degrees. Humidity will hover at about 55%. There will also be a slight breeze, with 6 mph winds.
Nico Cavallo (leg), Malachi Jones (leg), and Keaton Parks (leg) are all out for the final road game.
NYCFC fans should watch Hannes Wolf. The winger, even when he does not score, continues to be influential on the wings. His play aids in moving the ball up the pitch, and he does not disappear. This is a difference compared to last year, which means he has adjusted to the team. Or, perhaps Pascal Jansen has brought out the best in him. Nevertheless, it would be a good evening for him to find the back of the net.
Philadelphia’s Kai Wagner is another player to pay attention to. The left-back continues to be one of the stronger left-backs in the league, and he will make life difficult for anyone on his side of the pitch, both defensively and offensively. He has nine regular assists and 11 Major League Soccer assists, making him a vital provider to the home side’s attack.
The Boys in Blue have a 12-11-2 record against the Union. As such, it is easy to predict that the game will not end in a draw. Nevertheless, it feels like the result could go either way, for it depends on whether anyone makes a mistake or two. Hence, the prediction is that NYCFC or Philadelphia will win by a thin margin. A 1-0 win seems likely, but it is impossible to say who will come out on top.
