Odin Thiago Holm can look to Stan Petrov for inspiration

Odin Thiago Holm was seen as a great signing when he signed last summer in a £2.6 million deal from Norwegian side Valerenga.

His first season was seen as a disappointment as Holm only appeared in 12 games in all competitions with the majority of those appearances coming from the bench. But in those few appearances he acquitted himself well and showed glimpses of the talent that seen him rated as one of the best young players in Europe.

Can Holm make an impact in the hoops next season? I think he can. He has all the credentials to do so, but he just needs to show that on a consistent basis, and take his chances when they arrive. It’s got to be remembered that when he arrived last summer he was just a 20 year old boy adapting to life in a new country and a different football environment.

People tend to forget that sometimes when it comes to football players. One case in particular was a certain Stiliyan Petrov who arrived at Celtic at the same age and struggled badly on and off the park in his first season.

But Stan put that experience to good use and grabbed his chance the following season and never looked back. I’m not saying that Odin will be as talented as Stan, but he has the ability to make a mark on this Celtic team. Let’s hope he does just that.

Of all the project signings last summer many Celtic supporters, myself included, reckon that Odin Thiago Holm could turn out to be the best of the lot. This season is going to determine whether that’s an accurate assessment of the talented Norwegian midfielder who the manager also appears to rate highly. Over to you Odin.
