Odriozola teases Oyarzabal at the Izada, ‘Habemus papam’

The Day of San Sebastián began at midnight on 20 January with the Izada turning Plaza de la Constitución into a sea of drums and barrels.

As reported by AS, thousands packed the Parte Vieja as the Orfeón Donostiarra and tenor Xabier Anduaga led the Marcha de San Sebastián during the Tamborrada centenary.

The Real Sociedad squad were guests of honour on the Municipal Library balcony, invited by mayor Jon Insausti after their recent victory over Barcelona.

That win, achieved the previous day against the LaLiga leaders at Anoeta, followed Barcelona arriving after nine consecutive wins.

Amid the festivities, Mikel Oyarzabal stepped forward to salute fans chanting his name and team-mate Álvaro Odriozola quipped, “Habemus papam”.
