Odsonne Edouard injured against Sunderland, Lens sweat on scan before Trophée des Champions vs PSG | OneFootball

RC Lens striker Odsonne Édouard suffered an adductor problem in the friendly against Sunderland, which finished 0-2. According to L'Équipe, he will undergo an MRI to assess the severity, with the Trophée des Champions against Paris-SG eight days away.

He first headed to the touchline grimacing for treatment, then briefly returned to lead the 3-4-2-1. Within five minutes he came off, replaced by Thorgan Hazard in the 39th minute on his return to his boyhood club.

Head coach Dino Toppmöller said the forward felt something in his adductors and, although he was initially reassured when Édouard rejoined play, staff chose not to risk him. He added that a scan would provide clarity.

The German had been encouraged by long-term injured defenders resuming training, but may now have to plan without his main striker.

Édouard was central to last season’s runner-up finish to Paris-SG and the club’s first Coupe de France, scoring 14 goals, 12 in Ligue 1, with three assists in 34 matches in all competitions. Toppmöller also noted that injuries are affecting squads across clubs.
