Swedish second-tier side Östersund FK have asked supporters to help fund the return of former midfielder Curtis Edwards, now playing in England’s fifth tier.
The club said in a statement on Sunday that, because the move was neither planned nor budgeted, they are mobilising fans to make it happen. The fundraising target is 200,000 Swedish kronor, about €18,900, with any surplus to be reinvested in the squad.
Edwards, an English midfielder, spent 2016 to 2019 with the club. He is currently at Gateshead in the National League and would return to the Jämtkraft Arena if a deal is completed.
Founded in 1996, Östersund rose to prominence under Graham Potter, now Sweden’s head coach. They won the Swedish Cup in 2017, the club’s only major honour.
The club have faced significant financial problems since, nearly folding in 2024 and coming close to relegation to the third tier. To encourage donations, anyone giving more than 1,500 kronor, roughly €141, will receive a Curtis Edwards scarf at the first home game on 11 April.
