Official: Alessia Russo commits her future to Arsenal Women

Arsenal Women’s Alessia Russo has committed her long-term future to the club by signing a new contract. This comes after an incredible past few months for the England international. The 26-year-old, who joined the club in 2023, played a crucial part in Arsenal’s Women’s Champions League triumph, while also winning the WSL Golden Boot. She was also part of the Lionesses’ successful Euro defence in the summer, scoring against Spain in the final. Her exploits for club and country over the course of the previous campaign also earned her a Ballon d’Or nomination.

“Arsenal feels like home,” said Alessia on Arsenal.com. “This is such a special club and it has felt that way to me from the moment I joined two years ago. Playing for Arsenal is an honour and has pushed me to develop and grow as a player, and I feel empowered with this badge on my chest. I’m so proud of everything we’ve achieved together as a club, with our supporters driving us forward. But I’m still so hungry for more success, and I know that’s shared by everyone here at the club. I can’t wait to get started this season, starting with this Saturday at Emirates Stadium.”

Russo’s rise at Arsenal

Along with her Ballon d’Or nomination, the forward also won the Football Writers’ Association Player of the Year award and was named in both the PFA and UEFA Women’s Champions League Teams of the Year. Since her arrival from Manchester United in the summer of 2023, Russo has scored 36 goals in 72 appearances for the club, solidifying her position as one of the best forwards in the women’s game.

Arsenal Women begin new campaign today

Alessia Russo and Arsenal Women will kickstart their campaign today as they host London City Lionesses at the Emirates Stadium. Renée Slegers’ side will be looking to breeze past the newly promoted team to get their season off to a flyer. After finishing in the top three in each of the last six campaigns, Arsenal Women will bid to finally win the WSL crown again and, following their exploits last season, they will be heading into the new campaign with full belief.
