FC Metz striker Ibrahima Niane (23) will join bottom-placed Ligue 1 side Angers over a five-month loan with a purchase option, the Anjou club have announced.
Niane has already arrived at Angers’ training ground to undergo his medical. The Senegalese U20 international has scored two goals in thirteen games with Metz this season. He caught the eye of many when, aged 21 only, he scored six goals in the space of three Ligue 1 games in the 2020-2021 season, including a hat-trick against Lorient.
Unfortunately, he then ruptured his ACL and never really lived up to expectations since. He was tied to a contract with the Moselle side until 2024 but Metz were not relying on him anymore and wanted to sell. Amiens were reportedly keeping tabs on him, but Metz did not want to strengthen a Ligue 2 rival.
Angers are in complete disarray and have lost a joint-record twelve Ligue 1 games on the bounce, the last of which a 4-0 humbling away at relegation-battling Brest. They have only gained eight points in 20 outings this campaign.
