Liverpool have confirmed a new contract with a very promising young midfielder. He may be set for a promotion.

Liverpool are now in the stage of locking down what they’ve already got, with the transfer window having been shut for a week now. It was a strange window, of course, with the Reds coming out of it with what quite plainly looks like an imbalanced group.

Still, they believe they’ve got the best players they could possibly have - and that’s, as far as they see it, better than having a ‘balanced’ group. Time will tell if they’re correct on that.

It’s a strategy that applies to the youth system, too. Liverpool move to have the best youngsters possible, essentially playing the percentages as they try and find the next big thing.

Haydn Murray-Holmes agrees contract

We’ve seen young players from all over England join in the last few years, usually those considered the best in their respective academies. Not to say that local talent isn’t still shining.

One of the brightest lights is Haydn Murray-Holmes, who has now agreed his first professional contract with the club. The midfielder is now a regular for the Under 18s but it hoping to kick on further in this campaign.

Murray-Holmes made his debut in the UEFA Youth League last season - usually a pretty good precursor to joining the Under 21s. That certainly the next step for him.

"I'd like to try to break into the U21s, play in the UEFA Youth League and continue to play well, express myself on the pitch and enjoy it,” said Murray-Holmes.
