Official: Atlético Madrid announce first summer signing

La Liga heavyweights Atlético Madrid have on Tuesday announced the club’s first signing of the summer transfer window.
The player to have put pen to paper on terms at the Metropolitano for next season? Alejandro Grimaldo.
Defender Grimaldo has of course long emerged as a prominent figure in the transfer chatter in Spain’s capital. After word was forthcoming that Atlético were on the hunt for reinforcements on the left his summer, the 30-year-old was quickly labelled as a leading Rojiblancos target.
Talks, in turn, were kicked into gear between the Atléti brass, and their counterparts at Bundesliga outfit Bayer Leverkusen.
And as alluded to above, this week, the negotiations between the parties have officially borne fruit. As per a statement across the former’s website and social media platforms:
‘Atletico Madrid and Bayer Leverkusen have reached an agreement for the transfer of Alejandro Grimaldo, who has signed for our club until June 30, 2030.’
