La Liga giants Barcelona have on Tuesday announced the departure of another highly-regarded young member of the club’s reserve team ranks.
This comes amid confirmation of Toni Fernández taking his talents to Italy, to link up with Serie A outfit Venezia.
18-year-old Toni’s name had emerged as a prominent one in the transfer chatter surrounding Barcelona in the buildup to deadline day. After the starlet was forced to face up to his first-team path being yet further blocked by the signings of Anthony Gordon and Karim Adeyemi, Toni and his entourage began seeking out the best landing spot to further his development.
From here, the aforementioned Venezia entered the scene, promising the versatile attacker a prominent place in their senior setup this coming season.
And such promises evidently proved enough to convince Toni of the merits of a move to the Stadio Pier Luigi Penzo. As per a statement across Barcelona’s website and social media platforms on Tuesday evening:
‘FC Barcelona and Venezia FC have reached an agreement for the transfer of Toni Fernández. FC Barcelona retain a buy-back option and a percentage of any future sale.
‘FC Barcelona would like to wish Toni Fernández the best of luck in this new chapter and thank him for his dedication throughout all these years at the Club.’
Toni’s Blaugrana departure comes just hours on from that of cousin and close friend Guille, who has linked up with RCD Mallorca in Spanish football’s 2nd tier.
