A former member of the midfield ranks at La Liga champions Barcelona has early this week secured a return to the club, in a new-look coaching role.

The Blaugrana icon set to earn his coaching stripes back in Catalunya’s capital over the years ahead? Sergio Busquets.

Ex-Spanish international Busquets was a surprise visitor to the Ciutat Esportiva on late last month, photographed by a number of media outlets and reporters upon his arrival at the facility.

The 38-year-old, initially, was simply thought to have stopped by for a visit, maintaining a close relationship with several leading figures behind the scenes at Barca.

Word was soon forthcoming, though, that the trip came with a far more specific purpose in mind. Fresh off bringing a close to his legendary playing days, Busquets is ready to try his hand on the touchline moving forward.

And as confirmed on Monday, the start of his new journey is set to come back on the books of his beloved Blaugrana. As per a statement across the social media platforms of the reigning La Liga champions:

‘Sergio Busquets joins Barça Atlètic as assistant coach from this Monday. The Barça legend is joining Juliano Belletti’s team to bring his experience and football knowledge to the Barça team while he completes his coaching course.’
