Just as it felt like the injury woes were easing up for FC Barcelona, they have been handed a fresh setback today.
In an official statement, the Blaugrana have announced that in-form midfielder Fermin Lopez has suffered a minor injury to his calf muscle, which will rule him out of action for two weeks.
“Fermin has a minor injury in the soleus of his right leg and the approximate recovery time will be two weeks,” the statement from Barcelona read.
This comes as a blow for Fermin and Barcelona, especially at a time when the midfield department is not firing on all cylinders.
Fermin had firmly established himself as the preferred starter in the No. 10 role this term, ahead of Dani Olmo, who himself has struggled with fitness and consistency.
With Pedri also being sidelined in recent weeks, Fermin’s importance in the team had grown. And, now while Barça are all set to welcome their midfield maestro back this weekend, they have lost their homegrown talent for a couple of weeks.
Fermin’s two-week absence means that he will now miss the matches against Alaves, Atletico Madrid, Real Betis, Eintracht Frankfurt, and possibly even Osasuna.
There may be a slim chance that he returns for Barcelona’s final game before the Christmas break against Villarreal.
Fermin had already missed a few matches this season due to a groin injury. So far in 2025/26, he has made 13 appearances in all competitions, contributing seven goals and four assists.
