FC Barcelona are set to kick off their clash against Newcastle United shortly, with the first leg of the UEFA Champions League Round of 16 taking place at St James’ Park. The Catalan giants face a challenging away test and will be aware that securing a positive result in England could prove decisive ahead of the return leg.

With that in mind, Hansi Flick has opted for a strong and balanced starting XI as his side prepares to take on the Premier League outfit.

In goal, Joan Garcia starts for La Blaugrana. The young Spanish goalkeeper has produced several composed performances in recent weeks and will aim to add another solid display tonight, especially with the pressure that comes with playing away from home in Europe.

Ahead of him, Pau Cubarsi and Gerard Martin form the central defensive partnership. The duo will have to stay alert against an aggressive Newcastle attack, but both players possess the composure and defensive awareness required to handle the challenge.

On the flanks, Joao Cancelo operates from the left while Ronald Araujo starts on the right, with Eric Garcia left out due to discomfort. Both full-backs will be tasked with covering significant ground throughout the match while contributing both defensively and offensively when opportunities arise.

In the heart of the midfield, Pedri is accompanied by Marc Bernal in a double pivot. Both players will be looking to control the tempo of the game while simultaneously looking to create opportunities for their forwards up top.

Further forward, Lamine Yamal and Raphinha occupy the wide positions for the Catalan side. Between them, Fermin Lopez starts as the central attacking midfielder and will be responsible for linking midfield with attack while making late runs into the box.

Leading the line for Barcelona is veteran striker Robert Lewandowski. The Polish forward will be expected to provide the finishing touch in the final third, as Barcelona look to make the most of their chances in what promises to be a tightly contested European encounter.
