An upa-and-coming member of the defensive ranks at La Liga giants Barcelona has this week been dealt a heavy blow.
This comes amid confirmation that Xavi Espart is set to spend the next eight to ten weeks on the sidelines.
Youngster Espart for his part linked up with the Spanish national team’s U19s earlier this week, for the November international break.
Whilst in training this weekend, however, the right-back suffered an injury.
After limping out of a session with his La Rojita teammates, Espart was put through an ensuing round of medical tests on Sunday.
And the scans in question confirmed a considerable setback.
As per a statement across Barca Atlètic’s social media platforms:
‘Xavi Espart has an injury to the internal collateral ligament of his right knee, which occurred during the last training camp with the Spanish U19 team.’
Defender Espart – a regular in Hansi Flick’s first-team setup at Barcelona of late – is therefore expected to miss between eight and ten weeks of action.
