Bayern Munich have announced the signing of Australian winger Nestory Irankunda from Adelaide United. The 17-year-old will join Der Rekordmeister on July 1, 2024, and will subsequently sign a long-term contract with the club.

Irankunda is currently an Australian under-17 international; however, he has already received a call-up to the senior squad. Nevertheless, despite not yet featuring for the Australian first team, in five appearances at youth level, Irankunda has been able to register four goals and one assist.

While for Adelaide United, the promising teenager has played 39 times in his fledgling career, recording nine goals and two assists. Irankunda has also been able to make a name for himself on social media due to the way he can thunderously strike a ball, which the Bayern faithful will hope to see from the start of next season.

Regardless, the 17-year-old will remain in Australia until then, as “the experiences of the next few months in the A-League will certainly have a very positive effect on his further development,” commented Bayern’s director of youth development, Jochen Sauer. He would also add:

“We have had Nestory on our radar for some time and are pleased that we have reached an agreement with him and Adelaide United about a move to Munich next summer. We would like to thank those responsible at United for the always good discussions. Nestory is an extremely fast winger, good at dribbling and finishing, and has a lot of power towards the goal. We are convinced of his potential and that he will take the next steps with us.”

For Irankunda, signing for Bayern is a dream come true, and he will look to make the most of his opportunities in Bavraia, as he explained on Adelaide’s website: “I’m happy to have this all finalised and to be heading to one of the best clubs in the world — it’s a real dream come true. I’ve worked hard to try and make my family proud.”
