Como have officially announced the signing of versatile former Barcelona midfielder Sergi Roberto on a permanent deal following the expiry of his contract with the Catalan giants earlier in the summer.
The 32-year-old has put pen to paper on a two-year deal, which will tie him to the newly-promoted Serie A side until the summer of 2026.
“I see this as a new challenge in my career, I really believe in the project, I met the owners and they are very excited about this, I think they are doing the right things and I’m happy to be part of it,” the player said in a statement on the club website.
“When Cesc first contacted me, he explained to me the ambitions of the club coming from lower divisions all the way to Serie A in five years, and his ambition as a coach. So it’s exciting for me to come and be part of the growth of the club.
“I think I can help achieve the goals of the club with hard work and I’m looking forward to getting started”.
Sergi Roberto, who can be deployed in midfield and at right-back, made 373 appearances in all competitions for Barcelona’s senior side, making his professional debut all the way back in November 2010.
Sergi Roberto joins a long list of big-name players to join the project under Cesc Fabregas this summer, following the arrivals of Andrea Belotti from Roma, former Real Madrid and Manchester United defender Raphael Varane, plus former Liverpool veterans Pepe Reina and Alberto Moreno.
The 2023-24 Serie B runners up have also struck deals for Albert Dossena, Gabriel Strefezza, Yannick Engelhardt, Emil Audero, Alieu Fadera, Matthias Braunöder, Marco Curto, plus loans for Luca Mazzitelli and Ali Jasim.
