Robert Huth referenced the 2014/15 season as he called on the Leicester City players to show 'fight' in their battle to stay in the Championship.

Leicester City favourite Robert Huth has urged all at the King Power Stadium to pull together as they look to stay in the Championship, as he referenced their miraculous survival from the Premier League drop in 2014/15.

The Foxes have endured a very difficult campaign so far, and the six-point deduction they were hit with for financial breaches means they are now in the relegation zone.

Marti Cifuentes has already paid the price for that, as Leicester sacked the Spaniard, and former player Gary Rowett is poised to take over for the remainder of the season.

Rowett’s objective is clear, he will be tasked with keeping the club in the Championship, as falling into League One could have massive consequences for the club from a financial and sporting perspective.

Yet, one fan surprisingly claimed that relegation to the third tier could be what Leicester need, as it would trigger a full rebuild that would effectively allow them to start again.

But, that view wasn’t shared by many, and Huth was among those to get involved on social media, as he stated the importance of staying up, as he referenced his own experience of keeping Leicester in the Premier League over a decade ago.

Let's not get relegated!!! 14 massive games. 2014/15 fight and spirit is needed," Huth claimed.

And when another City supporter suggested that League One football may be needed for the club to rebuild from top to bottom, Huth saw it completely differently, believing that it can be done without having to drop a division.

Back in 2014/15, Nigel Pearson’s Leicester side looked nailed on to go down from the top flight, but a run of seven wins in their last nine games meant they survived against all odds, with Huth playing a prominent role.

Of course, they would then go on to win the Premier League the following season, with the centre-back and his teammates earning their place in English football history.

Gary Rowett must create a siege mentality at Leicester City when appointed

Sadly for Leicester, they feel like a completely different club to the one that Huth played for, as there are major issues with the fans and owners right now.

So, Rowett is inheriting a club in a mess, and whilst they are only one result away from climbing out of the relegation zone, the new boss will know that it’s not going to be straightforward to stay in the league.

It seems clear that a major shake-up is required in the summer, but most would agree with Huth that Leicester must do that as a Championship club.

On paper, they have more than enough quality in the ranks to get the results needed to stay up, but there will be question marks over the mentality and fight of the group.

Ultimately, we will see how it plays out over the next few months, but Leicester fans would no doubt wish the team had a player and character like Huth for the battle that lies ahead.
