FC Köln have announced that Davie Selke has prematurely extended his contract at the club, signing a three-year deal until 2026.

Selke joined the Billy Goats in January from Hertha Berlin on an 18-month deal until the summer of 2024 as a free transfer. However, in the 17 appearances Selke made for Köln, the 6’4 striker was able to score five goals for the club while also becoming a key component to Steffen Baumgart’s side; earning a premature contract extension.

“Davie not only fits in well as a player but above all as a person to FC, to our game idea and to our values. Leading the way on and off the pitch, he knows he’s far from exhausted. That makes you want more so that the early contract extension is the logical consequence,” said Köln managing director Christian Keller on why Selke was offered a new deal.

Keller concluded by saying: “We are very pleased that Davie has clearly committed to FC and wants to help shape our path in the long term.” Selke was able to help the side finish the season strongly after faltering in the middle of the Rückrunde to prevent any relegation concerns.

Talking about the extension, Selke commented: “I think everything that we had promised from my move to Cologne has come true. I like the way football is played at FC and I think it suits me perfectly. I was enthusiastic about 1. FC Köln right from the start – about the fans and the atmosphere at the home games.

“The coaching team and the guys in the dressing room have always made me feel good at FC. For me, the contract extension until 2026 is also a sign of trust from both sides. I have found my sporting home here and will continue to work hard for the success of the team.”

The 28-year-old striker will look to help Köln push their way up the table next season and challenge for a spot in Europe, especially after their transfer ban was lifted by the Court of Arbitration for Sports (CAS). The Billygoats have already confirmed five signings ahead of next season, with their intention of building upon this season clear.
