AS Saint-Étienne announced today the signing of Nantes defender Dennis Appiah (30) on a deal which runs until 2025. He drops down to the Ligue 2 side after having made 22 appearances for Nantes this season, as manager Antoine Koumbouaré opened the door to his departure over the Christmas period alongside Brazilian defender Fábio, who is set to return home and join Grêmio.
The former Monaco and Caen defender played 106 matches for Nantes in total, following a spell in Belgium with Anderlecht where he experience Europa & Champions League competition. He will turn out with the number eight shirt for Les Verts.
On his move, Appiah said that “I’m coming into a team that knows how to play football, that’s not the problem.” but suggested that he could offer some “aggressiveness to get out of the gloom caused by the club’s recent relegation” with his “experience“. Saint-Étienne currently sit rock bottom of Ligue 2 on a crash course to the Championnat National with only 12 points to their name so far.
