Alessandro Diamanti is officially the new coach of Serie B side Cesena, his first Italian management job, taking over from Ashley Cole after just eight games.

The club has made a habit of picking largely inexperienced figures for the bench who they believe have great potential as head coaches.

Cesena announce Ashley Cole as their new coach (@Cesenafc via Instagram)

Cole was a surprising choice when he was appointed on March 15, having previously only been an assistant manager for the England Under-21 side, Everton, Chelsea and Birmingham City.

His tenure lasted just eight games, overseeing one win, three draws and four defeats in Serie B, the Italian equivalent of the Championship.

Cesena decided to part company with Cole, and looked to an Italian who has spent much of his career abroad.

Diamanti is 43 years old and his only management experience is the Melbourne City Under-23 team from July 2023 to November 2025.

As a player, he had experiences at West Ham United, Bologna, Fiorentina, Guangzhou Evergrande and Western United.
