Eintracht Frankfurt have today announced the signing of Borussia Dortmund talent Nnamdi Collins for a fee just below €1m. The 19-year-old German central defender has signed a long-term contract with the Hessen club until 2028.
“Nnamdi Collins is one of the most promising German talents in his position,” said SGE Sporting Director Timmo Hardung. “We have a clear long-term plan with Nnamdi. Together with Nnamdi, we want to promote his further development in the short and medium term as best as we can and support him in developing his footballing potential.”
That hints that, as reported earlier, Collins could potentially be loaned out this summer for one or two years to aid his development. Yet to play top flight football, Collins represented Dortmund in the UEFA Youth League while playing for the U17 and U19 teams, while also playing for BVB’s second team.
Roma had also shown interest in signing Collins, who is a potential loss for Dortmund as not only have they lost a highly-rated prospect but they have also lost a player who had strong leadership qualities.
Although Dortmund may be a good place to develop young foreign players it is clear that the club is beginning to neglect the academy with Youssoufa Moukoko the only player to be considered a success story in the last few seasons.
