Montpellier have this afternoon announced the signing of left-back Faitout Maouassa on loan from Club Brugge, in what will be a one-season deal.
The 23-year-old former French youth international had left Rennes at the end of last season to join the Belgian side in a €4m deal, but has struggled and only made 7 league appearances in his time there.
Maouassa arrives at La Paillade in the wake of Serbian left-back Mihailo Ristić’s departure for Benfica, with Ambroise Oyongo also leaving at the end of his contract this month. Maouassa will wear the number 27.
The defender came up through the youth academy at Nancy before spending two seasons with the first team. He then moved to Rennes in 2017, where he would spend 4 years punctuated by a loan spell at Nîmes.
In total, Maouassa has over a century of Ligue 1 appearances, in which he has scored six goals and assisted eight. He is under contract with Club Brugge until the end of the 2024/25 season.
