Official | Federico Balzaretti joins Marseille as Assistant Sporting Director | OneFootball

Former Italy international left-back Federico Balzaretti has taken up the role of Olympique de Marseille’s Assistant Sporting Director, the Ligue 1 side has announced. Balzaretti will help current Football Director Medhi Benatia, his former teammate at AS Roma. Balzaretti’s main responsibilities will be to oversee the recruitment cell and help develop the club’s young talents, according to Marseille’s press release.

Balzaretti is a French speaker and as he previously revealed in an interview, he once almost joined OM’s fierce rivals, Paris Saint-Germain, when he was a player. The former Italy international previously joined AS Roma’s sporting department of AS Roma (2015 to 2019) before moving to Vicenza and then Udinese, where he was the club’s Sporting Director.

Balzaretti returned to AS Roma in January 2025 and was in charge of the players on loan.
