The French FA – Fédération Française de Football – has officially responded after footage of Argentina players singing racially oriented chants aimed at France players emerged last night on social media. On the back of their 2024 Copa America title at the expense of Colombia, Argentina players were heard singing a derogatory song mocking the origins of Les Bleus. AFP reported this morning that the French FA would refer the matter to FIFA. Now, the French FA has released a statement, in which the FFF announces they will file a legal complaint.

The French FA statement reads as follows: “The president of the Fédération Française de Football, Philippe Diallo, condemns in the strongest terms the unacceptable racist and discriminatory remarks which were made against the players of the French team in the context of a chant sung by players and supporters of the Argentina team after its victory in the Copa America and broadcast in a video on social networks.”

In its statement, the French FA adds that its president will file a legal complaint for insulting discriminatory racially motivated language and also question FIFA and its Argentina counterpart – AFA president Claudio Tapia – on the matter, given “the seriousness of these shocking comments, contrary to the values of sport and human rights.”
