The Équipe de France account congratulated Selma Bacha and Melvine Malard on their Ballon d’Or nominations, but omitted Wendie Renard, who voiced her displeasure.

According to Le Progres, the post appeared on Wednesday, the day after the eighth edition shortlist was revealed. It named Bacha and former Lyon team-mate Malard, but not Renard, the third French nominee.

Renard has not been called up since February 2025, yet she remains a France great with 168 caps and 39 goals.

Eugénie Le Sommer then reshared the news on Instagram, pointing out it was Renard’s sixth recognition from eight editions and noting that some had failed to congratulate her.

Renard thanked Le Sommer, suggested that years in the France shirt did not seem to count when congratulations were handed out, and said she was proud of the nomination.

Later, the Équipe de France account on X sought to make amends with a follow-up noting nominations in 2018, 2019, 2021, 2022 and 2023, and that this makes six, a record among this year’s 30 finalists. By then, the damage was done.
