Genoa have officially announced that Alberto Gilardino has been relieved of his duties as head coach after a two year spell in charge of the Grifone, which included a promotion campaign from Serie B in 2022-23.
Reports in Italy suggest that former Arsenal midfielder Patrick Vieira is poised to take over as head coach.
The coach leaves with the team sitting one point and one position above the relegation zone with a total tally of 10 points from 12 games. His last involvement was during the 1-1 draw against Como prior to the international break.

Genoa issued a brief statement on the club website thanking Gilardino for his efforts during his reign.
“Genoa CFC announces that Alberto Gilardino has been relieved of his duties,” the press release read.
“The club thanks Mister Gilardino for the goals we achieved together over the years and wishes him the best for his career.”
Gilardino becomes the fourt coach in Serie A to lose their job this season, following Daniele De Rossi’s departure from Roma, Luca Gotti’s dismissal at Lecce and the recent sacking of Ivan Juric, again at Roma.
Genoa will next be in action against Cagliari at home on Sunday morning.
