AS Monaco’s CEO, Thiago Scuro, said that the club needed to make a sale before July in order to avoid potential UEFA sanctions. That task has now been completed with George Ilenikhena (19) completing a big-money move away from the Principality club.

Ilenikhena joined AS Monaco 18 months ago from Royal Antwerp in a reported €17m transfer fee, which is nearly half of Al-Ittihad’s proposal despite Ilenikhena scoring only ten goals in 51 games with the Principality club.

However, due to fierce competition for places with Folarin Balogun and Mika Biereth, he has failed to nail down a place in the line-up. Monaco confirmed the striker’s departure following the closure of the transfer window for an undisclosed fee, believed to be €33m (€30m base fee plus an extra €3m in bonuses).

There was another departure from Monaco in the form of Lucas Michal, who joined FC Metz on a straight loan, whilst Simon Adingra joined Monaco on loan from Sunderland.
