Hervé Renard is back as Saudi Arabia manager. The French head coach was a free agent following the expiry of his short-term contract as France Women’s manager this summer. Renard was tasked by the French FA to lead Les Bleues to their first Olympic medal on home turf at the 2024 Summer Games. Unfortunately, France were knocked out by Brazil in the quarter-final stage. France Women’s deputy coach, Laurent Bonadei, succeeded him as head coach.

As head of the Saudi Arabia national team, Renard succeeds Italian manager Roberto Mancini. The EURO 2020 has been dismissed after only winning eight games out of a possible twenty. Renard will aim to qualify Saudi Arabia for the 2026 FIFA World Cup in America. Renard previously coached the country’s national team from 2019 to 2023. His tenure was marked by a remarkable 2022 World Cup group stage win against eventual tournament winners Argentina.
