Stade Rennais have confirmed the permanent transfer of Albert Grønbæk (25) to Hamburg SV for the full amount of his buy-out clause, estimated at around €6 million – including bonuses.

On loan to the German club this winter, which finished the season in 13th place in the Bundesliga table, the Dane made seven appearances, scoring one goal and providing two assists. A fine way to bounce back after an underwhelming first loan spell at Genoa, but above all a completely unsuccessful spell at Rennes.

Signed by SRFC from Bodø/Glimt in the summer of 2024 for a fee of €15 million, the attacking midfielder never really settled in France or adapted to the style of football there. Having made just 18 appearances for the Rouge et Noir (two goals, one assist), Grønbæk is therefore leaving Brittany without having made a lasting impression and now hopes to relaunch his career at HSV, where he has spent “six excellent months”.
