Antwerp have announced the signing of Dutch midfielder Jurgen Ekkelenkamp, who joins from Hertha Berlin on a four-year deal.
The Dutch contingent has been growing and growing at the club this summer with Marc Overmars joining as Director of Football, Mark van Bommel as manager and Vincent Janssen as a player. The former two wanted to keep that trend going by adding Ekkelenkamp to their ranks, and they’ve now done so.
It was by no means easy, with Hertha Berlin initially accepting an offer from Club Brugge. However, Ekkelenkamp was swayed by his compatriots and thus turned the Belgian champions down to move to Antwerp.
It’s a move that will excite the side’s fans given the Dutchman has previously impressed at points at Ajax and in Germany and is still only 22 years of age.
The transfer fee is believed to be around €5 million, taking the club’s spending for the current transfer window to just under €24 million.
