In a major development, the Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) has announced that Barcelona winger Lamine Yamal has been released from the Spain national team squad due to discomfort.
The 18-year-old winger has been dealing with pubic discomfort since September which has hindered him from performing at his best.
The problem saw the youngster miss national team duty last month as well, and despite being included in the roster by manager Luis de la Fuente initially this month, he will not play a part again.
In its statement, the RFEF expressed surprise and dismay over Lamine’s situation, citing that the Barcelona ace had undergone treatment without any prior intimation from the Blaugrana to the national team medical staff.
“The Medical Services of the RFEF wish to express their surprise and discomfort after learning at 13:47 on Monday, November 10, the day of the start of the official training camp with the national team, that the player Lamine Yamal had undergone an invasive radiofrequency procedure for the treatment of his discomfort in the pubis that same morning,” the statement read.
“This procedure was carried out without prior communication to the medical staff of the National Team, with knowledge of the details only through a report received at 22:40 last night, which indicated the medical recommendation of rest for 7-10 days.”
“Given this situation, and prioritising at all times the health, safety and well-being of the player, the Royal Spanish Football Federation has made the decision to release the athlete from the current call-up.
“We are confident that he will recover well and wish him a speedy and full recovery.”
This development is certain to add more tension to the situation between Barcelona and the Spain camp, that has been building since September when Lamine returned from the national team injured, much to the fury of Hansi Flick and the club.
For now, Lamine will be out for 7-10 days and will not be involved with the Spain national team.
