Official: Lazio Rescind Their Contract With Polymarket

Lazio have announced that their collaboration with their main jersey sponsor, Polymarket, has reached a premature end due to the company’s legal troubles in Italy.

The Serie A club remained without a main shirt sponsor for almost three years before signing a €22 million agreement with the New York-based company. But while their contract was supposed to run until June 2028 with an option for another year, an unforeseen development forced them to part ways.

Polymarket Banned in Italy

Last month, the Italian authorities blacklisted Polymarket for allegedly offering their clients unauthorized betting activities. The American company appealed the decision at the administrative court (TAR), highlighting the nuance between traditional betting and the prediction market, which is their domain.

However, the TAR turned down the urgent appeal, arguing that the case requires a thorough assessment, so the final ruling isn’t expected to ensue anytime soon. Lazio were prevented from displaying the company’s name and logo on their official kits in the meantime.

Lazio & Polymarket Terminate Their Contract With Immediate Effect

While the decision has been in the air for days, the official Lazio website confirmed on Tuesday that the club has terminated its contract with Polymarket.

SS Lazio announces that it has reached a mutual agreement with Polymarket to terminate the sponsorship agreement entered into between the parties. The agreement has been reached in a spirit of mutual cooperation and allows for the early termination of the partnership through a mutually agreed solution that safeguards the interests of both parties, in light of the new measures adopted by the competent authorities affecting the applicable regulatory framework.

Polymarket to Pay Lazio for 2026/27 Season

The good news for Lazio is that Polymarket agreed to fulfill their obligation towards the club for the entire 2026/27 campaign by paying the full amount (roughly €9.5 million). The two parties have also left the door open for a future collaboration should the circumstances change.

As part of the settlement agreement, Polymarket will pay SS Lazio the full amount contractually due for the 2026/2027 sporting season. Notwithstanding the termination of their contractual relationship, the confirm that they have maintained a relationship of mutual respect and cooperation parties and intend to continue their institutional dialogue. Should the applicable regulatory framework permit in the future, SS Lazio and Polymarket will look favorably upon the opportunity to establish a new partnership.
